Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Declaration of Dependence
Saturday, September 24, 2005

What does it mean to "commit" your way to the Lord? It's a radical way to approach life. Bob Pierce, the founder of World Vision, really got the hang of it. He prayed, "Lord, I give you license to interfere in my life and plans at any time, in any way, at any cost. Lord, You're in charge. I've got my plans, my dreams, my personal agenda, but if You want to change things, go right ahead—and You don't have to tell me in advance."

Interact with God's Word

Proverbs 16:3;Proverbs 3:5-6

  1. Can committing a task of yours to the Lord (16:3) be conditional—so long as things go as you expect?
  2. What are some well-laid plans or cherished dreams of yours?
  3. Have you ever rolled them over onto the Lord?
  4. Has God pried loose something you were gripping tightly?
  5. Does committing a project to the Lord diminish the effort you need to put into it?
  6. Facing a major decision (3:5), are you leery of deferring to someone else's judgment—even God's?
  7. Looking back, when did God's judgment turn out better than yours?
  8. What obstacles keep you from trusting God on a daily basis?
  9. What means do you think God uses (3:6) to "direct your paths"?
Spend Time in Prayer

Tell God you are ready to turn over to Him the right to be God in your life.

Proverbs 16:3

3 Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.

0Prayer for the Week

Forgive me for calling you Lord and then trying to run things as if You weren't in charge.
