Say It Out Loud
Theme of the Week: Targeted for Temptation?
Wednesday, September 28, 2005

Key Bible Verse: Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. … Take a firm stand against him (1 Peter 5:8, 9). Bonus Reading: 2 Timothy 2:20-22

When I was in my twenties, I was lounging on the couch late one night, flipping through channels, when I came upon this infomercial about girls taking off their clothes: Girls Gone Wild. At that moment, the dark side popped a lure into my head that said: Can you believe that, dude? She's hot. Check her out. And guess what? You're all by yourself. Nobody'll know.

But something very different happened that evening—I didn't bite down on the lure! I blurted out loud, "That's a lie!" Then I hit the off button on my remote, and that was it. I'd zapped the Girls Gone Wild infomercial into oblivion.

When you express a thought orally to the dark side, it stops being a mental negotiation; you change the playing field completely. By giving voice to thoughts such as: "That's definitely not God's plan," or "Explain this one to Jesus," you're confronting the dark side.

If we can talk ourselves into doing the wrong thing, we can certainly talk ourselves into doing the right thing! Load the magazine of your heart with God's Word and pull the trigger with your mouth by speaking it into your situation.

—Kenny Luck in Every Young Man, God's Man

My Response: A verse I'll quote as my response to media come-ons is …

Thought to Apply: However big the whale may be, the tiny harpoon can rob him of his life. —MALAY PROVERB

0Prayer for the Week

Preserve me, Lord, from the stupidity of craving what You, for my protection, have placed off-limits.
