The 60s and Beyond Theme of the Week: Questions You'll Face Gordon MacDonald Friday, September 16, 2005
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: When people live to be very old, let them rejoice in every day of life (Ecclesiastes 11:8). Bonus Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
The 60s, 70s, and 80s blend together, sharing several kinds of questions: Do I have enough time to do all the things I've dreamed about in the past? When do I stop doing the things that have always defined me? Do I have the courage to live with pain and weakness?
How much of my life can I still control? Must I stop driving, hand over the administration of my finances, live in a community where most of life is scheduled for me?
Is there anything I can still contribute? Does anyone realize, or even care, that I once managed a business, taught school, or threw a mean curveball? What do I regret? What are the chief satisfactions of my many years of living? Is God anywhere close to being pleased with the way I've lived a large part of my life? And what have I done that will outlive me?
Doubts and fears may arise in quiet moments. Is God really there for me? Who'll be around me when I die? If married, which one of us will go first, and what's it like to say good-bye to someone with whom you have shared so many years? When I die, will I be missed, or will the news of my death bring relief? And heaven—what's it like?

My Response: Are the things I've believed in capable of taking me to the end?
Thought to Apply: I shall grow old, but never lose life's zest, / Because the road's last turn will be the best. —HENRY VAN DYKE (pastor & writer)
