Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Questions You'll Face
Saturday, September 17, 2005

Paul had never met the believers at Colosse, but he knew that all believers have the same basic needs. In this section of his letter to the Colossians, he tells them how he's been praying for them. His prayer pattern teaches us how to pray for others we know, as well as for missionaries and other leaders we've never met. Perhaps most important, this prayer shows us how we should pray for our own growth throughout life.

Interact with God's Word

Colossians 1:9-12

  1. What two things has Paul been requesting (v. 9) in his prayers for the believers at Colosse?
  2. Is there a difference between the two? If so, what is it?
  3. Do you feel you have a handle on what God wants to do in your life?
  4. What did Paul expect to be the indicators (v. 10) of the Colossians' understanding and spiritual wisdom?
  5. Using this passage as a model, what nine things could you ask God to produce in your own life or the lives of others you pray for?
  6. Do you feel you are steadily getting to know God better? How could you make more progress?
Spend Time in Prayer

Ask God for a relationship with Him that keeps growing closer, deeper, and more confident throughout your earthly life.

Colossians 1:9-12a

9 So we have continued praying for you ever since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. 11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God's holy people, who live in the light.
