Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Love Out Loud
Saturday, February 18, 2006

The tender heart and humble mind Peter talks about in this passage didn't come naturally to his impulsive, strong-willed personality. But the Holy Spirit changed Peter as he learned many lessons the hard way. This remolding of his personality no doubt included his marriage. Peter's comment about unheard prayers hints at adjustments he had to make on the way to becoming a considerate husband.

Interact with God's Word

1 Peter 3:7-9

  1. What courtesies and ways of showing respect let your wife know that you honor her?
  2. If you're to treat your wife with understanding, what signals do you need to pick up from her?
  3. What can you do or say to make your mate feel like she's an equal partner with you?
  4. Does your sympathetic responsiveness to the needs of others extend to your wife?
  5. Is your heart becoming tender? Can your wife tell that you're working at being sensitive and caring?
  6. Is your mind becoming humble? Can your mate sense your support for challenges she faces, and your pleasure for her successes?
Spend Time in Prayer

Ask God to help you interact with your wife in ways that make her feel truly loved, understood, and affirmed.

1 Peter 3:7-9

7 In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat her with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. If you don't treat her as you should, your prayers will not be heard. 2 Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. 3 Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, I want to move beyond a shallow relationship with both You and the mate You've blessed me with. Please help me in both areas.
