Relatively Wimpy
Theme of the Week: The Truth About Tolerance
Wednesday, February 22
Key Bible Verse: Jesus said. "
All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true." "What is truth?" Pilate asked (John 18:37-38). Bonus Reading: Isaiah 5:20
Society's rejection of absolute truth should come as no shock. But the growing number of Christians who waffle in their convictions about basic tenets of the faith is undermining the strength of the church. Many, without realizing it, have embraced the postmodern concept of relative truth. For example:
- A Christian leader interviewed on a popular talk show is asked whether a moral Muslim is going to hell. He responds, "That's not for me to decide. We must let a good, loving God make that determination."
- A Christian businessman is invited to offer a prayer at his Rotary club meeting and closes his prayer with "In Your name" instead of "In Jesus' name" so as not to offend non-Christians present.
- A Christian serving on the local school board caves in to pressure to reject a science textbook that mentions creationism as an alternative to evolution by reasoning, Although that is what I believe personally, we must respect the separation of church and state.
Instead of boldly holding out the light of truth in "a world full of crooked and perverse people" (Philippians 2:15), Christians increasingly hide or even extinguish the light of absolute truth to blend in with the world's darkness.

My Response: Do I fudge my faith to accommodate others' intolerance?
Thought to Apply: Nonconformity has become the major if not the only sin we know today.ROBERT LINDNER
