Men of Integrity, March/April 2006

Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Preplan Your Defense
Saturday, April 1

David may have written this psalm early in his reign as king as he set down the standards he wanted to follow. But although it deals with things like the kind of men he would select to be part of his administration, it goes well beyond a job description. It spells out the ingredients of a blameless life, and asks for God's help in achieving it.

Interact with God's Word
Psalm 101:1-8

  1. What are marks of integrity in the home (v. 2), as distinct from the workplace?

  2. What "vile and vulgar" things (v. 3) do you need to shield your eyes from?

  3. How have you made refusal to view such material a non-negotiable?

  4. Name some perverse ideas (v. 4) of today that the believer should reject?

  5. Name some of today's forms of "every evil" that David knew nothing about?

  6. Did David assume he could live up to this psalm's standards on his own (see v. 2)?

  7. How can you keep "a protective eye" (v. 6) on Christian brothers?
Spend Time in Prayer

Ask God for the will and power to reject everything vile and perverse so that you may lead a blameless life.

Psalm 101:1-8

1I will sing of your love and justice. I will praise you, LORD, with songs. 2I will be careful to live a blameless life—when will you come to my aid? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. 3I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all crooked dealings; I will have nothing to do with them.

4I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. 5I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. 6I will keep a protective eye on the godly, so they may dwell with me in safety. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.

7I will not allow deceivers to serve me, and liars will not be allowed to enter my presence. 8My daily task will be to ferret out criminals and free the city of the LORD from their grip.
