Who Said It…Randy Pope
Randy Pope is the senior pastor of Perimeter Church in Duluth, Georgia, a church he started after moving to north Atlanta in 1977 to reach the unchurched there. Within eight years of its founding, Perimeter planted three daughter churches.
Randy is an avid tennis player. He served as a chaplain for players on the ATP Tennis Tour for 10 years. In that role he led Bible studies for the players at tournaments and was involved in discipling some of them. What He Said…Love in Real Life
I met a man who had it all—looks, talent, and brains—plus five beautiful kids, each the model of good behavior. I was curious about what his wife looked like. If she matched the other aspects of this guy's life, I guessed she'd be a knockout. When I finally met her, she wasn't at all what I'd expected.
I eventually got close enough to this man to ask my question. I said, "Can you talk to me a little about love? What does love look like for you?"
For him, he told me, love meant giving his wife the time she needed, making sure she felt his strong support, and asking if there was anything he could do to lighten her load. It meant spending time with their kids so his wife could have time to herself. He loved her by doing what he knew was best for her. He stayed more focused on the needs of his wife than on meeting his own needs. That's an ability that comes from above. It's a commitment based on what one knows to be the will of God.
