Our Blue Sky Theme of the Week: From Career to Calling Mark Chanski Monday, September 4, 2006
 1 of 1

Bible Verse for Bonus Day: Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than ordinary people (Proverbs 22:29).
A good friend of mine works for a global auto interior manufacturer. He's a quality control trouble-shooter. When a GM or Chrysler encounters difficulties, Roy is called in to untie the Gordian knots in order to avert corporate disasters and satisfy the irritated clients.
One evening in his living room, Roy recounted some of the chaotic variables he works with: machines breaking down, chemical formulas improperly mixed, electrical circuitry inadequately designed, and ground transportation not keeping schedules. As his voice reached a frustrated pitch, Roy looked at me and said, "But you know, Mark, at my work, I'm in my element. I love taking things that are broken and putting them back together. I love arriving at a mess and making things neat and clean again!"
This kind of hard-working ethic not only gives glory to God, but also typically issues in dividends to the conscientious and inspired worker: a raise in salary, promotion in position, and well-deserved esteem in the eyes of God and men.
For Roy, a week at work is more satisfying and fulfilling than a week at Disney World. So it should be. Just as an eagle has been given wings to fly; so man has been given hands to work. Our work is our blue sky!
