After Bob was discharged from the Army, he bought part of the family farm to pursue his dream of building Indiana's greatest hog operation. Two years later he became a Christian and got married. Trained in accounting, he accepted a job with a major industry in his town and was soon assistant controller. Meanwhile his hog project was thriving.

I kept sensing the Lord's conviction that I should submit my vocation to Him. Like Gideon, I protested that I was the wrong one. I told God, "You'll need to give me a sign. I've doubled my hog operation to 80 sows. If none of them has babies, I'll believe You have other work for me." In a few weeks the veterinarian confirmed the obvious. I wasn't going to get any baby pigs. My boars were all sterile!

About then, an item in the World Gospel Mission magazine announced its need of an accountant. I applied—and worked there for 25 years. A couple of years before retiring, I promised the Lord I'd be available to serve on any of our mission fields as a volunteer if He so desired. Soon after that a missionary in Honduras, where I'd earlier visited with a work team, asked if I'd help start a hog operation.

My first reaction? "Lord, You must be kidding!" But we moved to Honduras in 1999. And today we have the operation of my dreams here with four beautiful buildings, constructed with the assistance of some ten work teams, and a great vocational training program for 25 young men.
