How Tony Got Tapped Theme of the Week: Rising from the Ranks Mark Jobe Monday, November 27, 2006

Key Bible Verse: Timothy was well thought of by the believers … so Paul wanted him to join them (Acts 16:2-3). Bonus Reading: 1 Timothy 1:18-19; 4:11-16
Tony Wasso, one of the four, grew up in a gypsy family and came to church each Sunday in a T-shirt and with a big metal chain around his neck. He easily hung out and talked with the men who came to the Saturday men's fellowship for new believers. But I observed more than neighborhood familiarity; he truly cared for these men.
Tony and his wife, Linda, began working with a woman whose husband was abusive. They gave her a ride home, only to find the husband in a fit of rage and challenging Tony to a brawl. Tony knew how to fight, but instead of meeting the challenge with fists, he got right in the man's face and spoke to his heart, "We want to help." That husband began seeing Tony for counseling.
As Tony's God-given heart for troubled people emerged, I asked him, "Would you be my ministry partner? Many come to the Sunday night service with prayer needs. I'd like you at the services to pray for them with me."
At first Tony was scared to take such a public role. Soon, however, prayer and counseling became his niche for ministry. As he continued to demonstrate calling, character, and fruitfulness, Tony grew in leadership. Today he pastors one of our satellite sites.
