Copying Cosby Theme of the Week: How to Spell Love with Your Wife Clarence Shuler Monday, February 12, 2007
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions (1 John 3:18). Bonus Reading: Ephesians 5:25-30
According to comedian Bill Cosby, if you're married to an independent, intellectual go-getter and you want to avoid "honey-do's"—especially when you're in the middle of watching that championship basketball or football game—either pretend you don't hear or keep repeating "Huh?" By the third "Huh?" Cosby claimed, your wife will stop calling you, do what she wants done herself, and leave you alone to watch the game.
Early in our marriage I tried Cosby's idea. It worked like a charm! "Huh?" became a vital addition to my vocabulary, especially in communicating with Brenda.
Coming as it does from a comedy routine, Cosby's strategy shouldn't be taken seriously. But I'll bet many guys—just like I did—may sometimes use a similar tactic to avoid interaction with their wives. Such ploys keep your wife from becoming your best friend. And when we look at the motivation behind employing such ideas, we see a desire to have our own way. Intentionally or unintentionally, I was being unkind to Brenda. Acting selfishly, I was placing my own desires above meeting her needs.

My Response: Is there an area in my life where Cosby's spoof hits too close for comfort?
