Patriotic Evangelism: Presidents' Day Bonus Page Monday, February 19, 2007
 1 of 1

Bible Verse for Bonus Day: Remind your people to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good (Titus 3:1).
The term Christian America is sometimes used erroneously to describe the philosophical and theological foundation on which the United States was built. Has America ever been a Christian nation? No. Our nation was founded on biblical Judeo-Christian principles wedded to enlightenment ideas of self-government. Those ideas work only when a significant segment of the population is voluntarily obeying the law because they are aware of being subject to a higher authority. When this percentage of the population that is voluntarily obeying the law drops below a certain level, then a self-governing democracy doesn't work.
John Adams, our second president and one who labored most diligently to secure our Constitution wrote this in 1798:
"We have no government armed in power capable of contending in human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."
A genuinely Christian America would mean that the vast majority of its citizens has come to a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior—not through government sponsorship or subsidy, but by the evangelistic action of individual Christians, churches, and mission groups.
