The Real Deal
Theme of the Week: A Man's Caring Side
Todd Wendorff
Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Key Bible Verse: Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us show it by our actions (1 John 3:18).Bonus Reading: Romans 13:8-10

Our society portrays a lovesick culture in which some pretty goofy, sex-crazed people hook up for long- or short-term romance. So how does a Christian man view the concept of love these days? For a guy, love is a strange word. We don't quite know what to think of it. At the very least, we know that we love differently than women do, and we often feel misunderstood because of it.

I would admit that I don't tell my wife I love her often enough. Yet men really do know how to love. Many of us men show our love for our wives through our sacrifice, through working hard to provide what's needed for our family. We work around the house to ensure that our home is a safe haven. We take our wife out for dinner, or we sit around on the couch and listen as she describes her day. That's expressing love too.

We show love for our kids by spending time wrestling with our son or taking our daughter out on a date. We show our love for a neighbor by helping him in the garage or by pulling out an old tree stump in the backyard. We show our love for strangers by giving them a helping hand in a time of need. For us, it's all about showing the love of Christ by offering a word of hope and extending a helping hand.
