Corps Commitment Theme of the Week: A Man's Caring Side Rich Rusaw and Eric Swanson Friday, April 20, 2007

Key Bible Verse: I will gladly spend myself and all I have for your spiritual good, even though it seems that the more I love you, the less you love me (2 Corinthians 12:15).Bonus Reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8
Joining the Marines right out of high school, JL deliberately left his parents, his girlfriend, and the church he sometimes attended on Sunday mornings. He excelled as a Marine, graduating as the Company Honor Man in basic training, setting the range marksmanship record, and receiving a meritorious promotion.
At his next assignment, as a company clerk, a 125-pound corporal named Randy came by. He interacted with JL in a way that prompted him to commit his life to Jesus Christ. Immediately the two began to reach out with the good news to other Marines on the base. One night Randy showed up at JL's door with his face swollen and bruised. When JL asked, "What the heck happened to you?" Randy said he'd gotten beat up in the next barracks for explaining to a soldier his belief in Christ.
But Randy didn't let that stop him. Shortly after JL was discharged from the Corps, he received a letter from Randy with good news: the guy who had beaten him up had come to faith in Christ. Now the two of them were sharing Christ with the other Marines.
