The Voices Left
Theme of the Week: Handling Guilt
Thursday, March 22

Key Bible Verse: Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us (Romans 5:1). Bonus Reading: Romans 4:1-5,16-25

Two years after high school, I was burnt out by alcohol, drugs, and dabbling with occult Eastern religions. Unemployed, I was caretaker of a farmhouse for a woman. One day Dorothy and I talked.

"You are seeking God, aren't you?" Dorothy asked.

"Yes," I said.

"And you've been hoping that Jesus is not the answer?"

I nodded.

"Well, He is."

For several days Dorothy continued to witness. I became ill and heard voices whenever I seriously considered Christ. I recovered only after I heard Dorothy praying for me.

Finally she said. "You are hearing voices, aren't you?"

"Yes."

"They are wrong."

I was lying on a bed in despair, weak from a trance. I knew the words and repeated them in my mind: "Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and I need you. I pray that you will forgive me and come into my life."

"You have to say the words out loud," she said.

I did. The voices left. A peace entered my heart.

—John Moore in Take the Reins

My Response: I'll thank God for His peace that replaces internal tumult.

Thought to Apply: I never let a person say, "I accept Christ as Savior" until first of all he or she has said, "I acknowledge that I deserve the wrath of God."—FRANCIS SCHAEFFER (scholar, founder of Swiss study center, L'Abri)

0  Prayer for the Week 0

I admit, Lord, that I deserve Your wrath. Thank you for providing a way for me to be made right with You through faith in Your Son.
