A NASCAR Driver's New Life
Theme of the Week: Slaying Sin
Bobby Hillin
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Key Bible Verse: Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you have obeyed with all your heart the new teaching God has given you Romans 6:17. Bonus Reading: Romans 6:15-7:6

After placing my faith in Christ, I prayed, "Lord, please give me the strength to quit cussing." My mouth was filthy. Before, I'd tried to quit; I could not do it. Now it was as if God turned the faucet off!

I called my ex-girlfriend Kim in Texas from North Carolina. I said, "You're not going to believe what I did today."

Kim said, "What?"

"I accepted Jesus Christ."

She said, "You're kidding! I did that as a girl but fell away in high school. Here in college, I've been in Bible studies and rededicated my life to Christ."

Kim had a book, Ten Steps to Christian Maturity. I got one, and we did the lessons together each night over the phone.

I told my dad what happened. He didn't understand. He and his girlfriend had been living together for several years. Not long after I accepted Christ, his girlfriend did too! She moved out, saying, "We're not going to live in sin."

My father read the Bible for about a month. After that, he accepted Christ! And now they're married.

My Response: What behaviors changed or are changing because Christ has entered my life?

Thought to Apply: God will bring about our sanctification, but we are called to be active partners in the process.—FRANCIS SCHAEFFER (scholar, founder of Swiss study center, L'Abri)

0Prayer for the Week

Forgive me, Lord, for minimizing the gift of my reconciliation to You through Christ by failing to confront my sinfulness.
