Men of Integrity, September/October 2007

Game-Clock Time
Theme of the Week: Wasted Time?
Tuesday, October 9

Key Bible Verse: It was by faith that Joseph … confidently spoke of God's bringing the people of Israel out of Egypt. He was so sure of it that he commanded them to carry his bones with them when they left! (Hebrews 11:22). Bonus Reading: 2 Peter 3:3-14

"Honey, when are you coming to bed?" a wife asks her husband.

"I'll be up soon," he replies. "Only 1:58 left on the clock." But can she expect him to actually be in bed in less than two minutes?

He's watching another classic Duke-North Carolina college basketball matchup on ESPN. The truth is, each team will use the two full timeouts and the "30" they have left. Both are in the double bonus. The TV people have their ads to air. The game will eventually go into double overtime, and, in the upside-down math of a basketball game-clock, it will be more than an hour before the husband gets to bed.

There's evidence throughout the Bible that God's game-clock is a little like that. It doesn't always run on the same time we do. Take [today's Key Bible Verse] for example. Do you think he had any idea that the Israelites would be in Egypt for 400 years? Or that they would spend 40 years in the wilderness before entering the Land?

Do you sometimes wonder if God will provide for you as He promised? Those who live by faith must live by faith in God's time. God's game-clock will read :00 right when it should.
