Not all of us can effect change at the macro level. But we often underestimate our ability to make a significant difference at the micro level.

The data entry worker may not by himself be a force to be reckoned with in transforming the banking industry, but he certainly has an opening to help grow community in the office, to inspire others with his acts of compassion and love, to push for better working conditions, to build strong and trusting relationships between management and staff, and to speak the truth in love.

A truck driver may belittle his own trade, thinking, What significance is there in trucking frozen goods from one place to another? But the truth is that transporting goods to where they're needed is a critically important service. Countries without a good transport infrastructure are plagued by shortages, famine, and suffering. And that's just for starters. If he thinks through his daily work, our truck driver may also be able to see the value in driving courteously; driving efficiently to conserve fuel; raising ethical issues with management, such as accidentally unfrozen food that's resold; and expressing God's care and love in the way he relates to people during the day.
