Who Said It…Jerry Tuma
Jerry Tuma is a certified financial planner who formed his own company, the Dallas, Texas-based Cornerstone Financial Services. He hosts Smart Money, a nationally syndicated financial show, and provides daily features for radio stations across the country. Together with his wife, Romana, and Tim LaHaye, he's authored a book with the same title, which looks at how temperaments affect financial behavior. What He Said…Undercover Agents
One year when our family was struggling financially, we decided to focus not on the few presents we could provide our children, but on giving to a truly deprived family. We explained this to our young children, who entered into the spirit of it as we planned, budgeted, went to the toy store, and picked out gifts. Discovering that neither parent would receive a gift, the children urged us to buy for them also. Stretching our dollars further, we bought their gifts, took all the presents home, and wrapped them.
At midnight on Christmas Eve, our sleepy-eyed children crawled into the car with us, and we put the box of gifts on this family's porch. We'd arranged for a 24-hour answering service to call and alert the family. From our parking spot down the street, we watched that whole family emerge and find Christmas on their porch. This experience changed our children's lives. Both became much more aware of other people's needs, and responded unselfishly.
