 Men of Integrity, November/December 2007
Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Prayer Outcomes
Saturday, November 17
As is usual in the lyrics he composed, David is "surrounded by troubles." But instead of succumbing to discouragement, he remains optimistic. This song focuses on a tangible basis for his confidence that God will bring him through his difficulties.
Interact with God's Word
Psalm 138:1-8
- What key aspect of his relationship to God does David single out (v. 3) in this psalm?
- What features of God's character (v. 2) does His answering demonstrate?
- Why can we rely without hesitation on God's promises?
- Why (vv. 6 & 8) can you count on the Creator of the universe to concern Himself with your needs?
- What is one specific way (v. 3) that God equips us to deal with our problems?
- How (v. 7) does God protect those who trust in Him?
- How (v. 8) can you tell if your plans align with those God has for you?
- Remember when you asked God for protection, strength, comfort, patience, love, or another special need? Did you take His answers for granted?
Spend Time in Prayer
Take some time now to thank God for His answers to specific prayers of yours.
Psalm 138:1-8
1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart;
I will sing your praises before the gods.
2 I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed
by all the honor of your name.
3 As soon as I pray, you answer me;
you encourage me by giving me strength.
4 Every king in all the earth will thank you, Lord,
for all of them will hear your words.
5 Yes, they will sing about the Lord's ways,
for the glory of the Lord is very great.
6 Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble,
but he keeps his distance from the proud.
7 Though I am surrounded by troubles,
you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand,
and the power of your right hand saves me.
8 The Lord will work out his plans for my life
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don't abandon me, for you made me.
