Who Said It…Ajith Fernando
Ajith Fernando was the Bible expositor at Urbana 06. He's been the national director for Youth for Christ in Sri Lanka for a generation, working with youth guidance, drug rehabilitation, sports programs, tutoring, and scholarships. But at the same time, Dr. Fernando has authored books and commentaries translated into 12 languages and lectured in biblical studies at Colombo Theological Seminary and several seminaries in Asia-Pacific and North America. What He Said…Leprosarium Hold-out
While visiting a leprosy hospital, a preacher encountered one man with a glowing love of Jesus. This patient told the preacher, "When I first came to this hospital, I was the angriest, bitterest man here. But one man from the village nearby came every day to visit me and bring me food." (In our part of the world, hospital food is usually of poor quality.)
The man said that at first he threw the food back in the visitor's face. "He'd come out and offer to play cards with me, but I shouted at him to leave me alone. He wanted to talk to me, but I refused to answer. Still he came day after day. Finally the leper asked, "Why do you keep coming to see me, when all I ever show you is bitterness and hatred?" The man replied that it was because of the love of Christ.
The preacher asked the leper, "How long did he come to see you before you gave your heart to Christ?"
"Every day for 13 years."
