 Men of Integrity, January/February 2008
Weekend Wrap-up
Theme of the Week: Navigate by Scripture
Saturday, January 19
In this much-loved psalm, David vividly contrasts the wicked person with the righteous person. But in the process, he provides a series of insights into the standard operating procedures adopted by men whom others identify as godly.
Interact with God's Word
Psalm 37:4-7, 23-24, 30-31
- Can a person you relish being with be a casual acquaintance or must he be someone you know well?
- So what is involved (v. 4) in taking delight in the Lord?
- How might achieving this kind of relationship affect your heart's desires?
- What is included in committing everything (v. 5) to the Lord? What are you tempted to keep control of?
- Why is waiting patiently for God to act (v. 7) the ultimate indicator of trust?
- How does realizing (v. 23) that the Lord delights in directing every detail of your life make you feel?
- How have godly persons (vv. 30-31) learned to distinguish right from wrong?
- What guarantees (v. 24) that you won't totally wipe out as you try to do God's will?
Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God to help you become so grounded in his Word and attentive to his Spirit that you won't charge off in directions at odds with his plan for you.
Psalm 37:4-7, 23-24, 30-31
4Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart's desires.
5Commit everything you do to the LORD.
Trust him, and he will help you.
6He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.
23The LORD directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
24Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the LORD holds them by the hand.
30The godly offer good counsel;
they teach right from wrong.
31They have made God's law their own,
so they will never slip from his path.
