Shift from Worry to Trust
Theme of the Week: Navigate by Scripture
Gene Shackelford

God's Word: Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you Psalm 37:5. Bonus Reading: Exodus 14:10-14

Lying awake, I experienced the shakes for the first time. So, this is what a nervous breakdown is like! I thought. Why did I take this new job anyway? For a month I'd managed a large, troubled chemical plant. Conflicts between management members were triggering serious labor union problems. "This mess better get straightened out soon," headquarters kept warning.

Without waking my wife, I got up, gasped "Lord, help me!" and started reading the psalms as never before. I soon came across [today's God's Word verse]. I'd read it before; now it carried fresh meaning. I resolved to do just that, went back to bed, and promptly fell asleep. The next morning, I related all this to my wife, and we prayed about it together.

The problems didn't go away immediately, but my attitude about them changed instantly. I continued reading the psalms and praying for guidance. Feeling very alone, I made painful personnel decisions. Amazingly, even when I had no clue which way to go, the Lord directed moves in the right direction. The situation improved over time and, more importantly, my walk with the Lord grew stronger as I committed each day to him and searched for his guidance about everything—even corporate organizational issues.

My Response: Am I willing to trust God with the consequences of my decision? To trust him with my future, even when it's unclear?

My Prayer: Father, help me to rest in your control.

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, help me to become so grounded in your Word and attentive to your Spirit that I won't charge off in directions at odds with your plan for me.
