Your Inner Compass
Theme of the Week: How Men Measure Themselves
Thursday, June 19, 2008

Key Bible Verse: For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God's children (Romans 8:16). Bonus Reading: Romans 8:9-17

You were created with a compass inside you pointing in the direction of God's design, God's mission. You weren't created to fit any mold except the one God specifically created for you. And you'll never be truly satisfied until you find it. You were born on purpose, and with a purpose—created by God, for God. The Bible tells us "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago" (Ephesians 2:10).

David once said, "The Lord will work out his plans for my life" (Psalm 138:8). You can say that too, with just as much confidence. And know for certain that this purpose isn't ultimately for your sake, but for his. In fact, Scripture says, "Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious free life" (Romans 8:6 The Message).

At the end of the day, striving only to make life better for ourselves will end in sure frustration. But focusing our time and energy on his kingdom, his Camelot, will lead us to "a spacious, free life." That's what we're looking for—a full, meaningful, and free life.

—John Bolin in Life Unlimited

My Response: How could a kingdom focus inject fresh meaning into my life?

Thought to Apply: The secret of my success? It's simple. It's found in the Bible: "In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths." —George Washington Carver (botanist & agronomist)

0Prayer for the Week

Lord, help me derive my sense of worth from Your love for me and not from what the world considers important.
