Hush-hush Topic? Theme of the Week: The Good News Under Wraps Bill Hull Tuesday, June 3, 2008
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: "When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere" Acts 1:8 . Bonus Reading: 1 Peter 3:15-16
When the person seated next to me on the airplane found out I was in the "God business," she said, "You're not going to try to convert me, are you?"
"If I didn't try," I responded, "I wouldn't be much of a Christian." I told her that God holds me responsible to tell others about my experience with him. Since I believed I had the best news anyone could hear, I was going to tell her. As it turned out, she'd never really heard the Good News; she'd only been exposed to bits and pieces.
One of Satan's favorite lies is that religion is a private matter, because nice, benign Christians are no threat to him. He wants us to worship the god of tolerance and political correctness. In the not-too-distant future, I predict, witnessing to the exclusive nature of the gospel will be classified as a "hate crime." The thought police will turn in people who speak words that make people feel left out and guilty. Churches will exhort members to let their lives speak to others. But one of the most arrogant things a person can say is, "I'll let my life speak for me." As Sam Shoemaker used to say, "That's too much about us and too little about Him."

My Response: Why is religion harder to talk about than the weather, sports, or politics?
Thought to Apply: God is not saving the world; it is done. Our business is to get men and women to realize it. —Oswald Chambers (British teacher & chaplain)
