Who Said It … Chris Widener
Chris Widener is the president and CEO of Made for Success, based in Issaquah, Washington. He's written several books and audio programs on leadership and motivation. Along with Zig Ziglar, he co-hosts the nationally televised show True Performance.
Chris and Lisa are the parents of four teens. And Chris is currently teaching a one-year course on leadership development to selected men in their church: Snoqualmie Ridge's Church on the Ridge. What He Said … The Right Kind of Ambition
Can Christians be ambitious? That question haunts many Christian business people who want to be devoted to Christ but also feel a compelling drive to succeed in the marketplace.
Is God ambitious? Yes, by his very nature. What could be more ambitious than creating a hundred million galaxies? God's plan to become a man and single-handedly save the human race from its fallen state is the essence of compassionate ambition.
So, where does that leave us, created, as we are, in God's image? The Bible never tells us not to be ambitious, but it repeatedly asserts that selfish ambition isn't of God.
The key is to always be aware of the state of our heart. Has God placed a desire in my heart to achieve a dream that demonstrates his character and glorifies him? Then I should pursue it with all my heart! But if I detect selfish motives in my ambition, I need to take the time to pray, asking God to show me his ambitious plans for my life.
