Who Said It … Craig Fryar
Craig Fryar calls himself a serial entrepreneur. He has more than 20 years of business and technological development and experience. He's now executive vice president of Torquin, LLC, an Austin, Texas-based pharmaceutical discovery and IP (internet protocol) development company. Before that, Craig helped local entrepreneurs attract venture capital funding. What He Said … Spiritual Muscle Building
As I start to build a company or business concept, the excitement of seeing a dream turn to reality is typically offset by difficulties encountered. These challenges, I've come to appreciate, are almost always opportunities for me to cooperate with God as he actively refines things in my life. He allows testing to build my most fundamental muscles: character and faith. So I've learned to step back and ask, "What are you teaching me at this point? What process are you taking me through?"
I once accepted a job I thought to be ideal. After only two weeks, I knew it was my worst job ever. So I asked God what he was teaching me. His response: "I'm using this job to break you of your addiction to work." He was right. I'd become addicted to the rush of the workplace, enjoying it more than being a good husband, father, and friend.
"All right, Lord," I said, "I've learned this lesson." But he knew differently. Five months later, when I'd truly been broken, he allowed me to leave—for a job in which I thrived for many years.
