Christendom's Indiana Jones Theme of the Week: Contagiously Radical Monday, July 14, 2008
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: If it seems that we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God … it is because Christ's love controls us (2 Corinthians 5:13, 14). Bonus Reading: 2 Cor. 5:11-15
I met Tom Randall in 1976. We were both preparing to go overseas on evangelistic basketball teams. He was from inner-city Detroit, talked with a funny accent, and seemed kind of crazy. But at Judson College, he'd led the nation in NCAA Division II scoring.
Tom had been a Christian for only a few months when he went to the Philippines to share Christ. He returned a changed man, passing up Chicago Bulls tryouts so he could respond to God's call to return to the Philippines. He worked in a factory to finance the move, then left with no formal Bible training—just a big heart.
Whenever Tom heard God's voice, this sports missionary responded with reckless abandon. I've been on the back of a motorcycle with Tom recklessly weaving in and out of traffic, wondering if I'd survive. I've been in a Jeep with Tom, with a machine gun pointed in my face, as he explained that his friend, "the General," would be upset if we couldn't get to the village where we were scheduled to play.
Now, 30 years later, a mission organization (World Harvest Ministries) has been established, orphanages built, and thousands have responded to the gospel.

My Response: What can I learn from God's big heart and reckless faith?
