John wanted to quit his lucrative law practice. Over lunch he shared his dream: making movies. It sounded crazy enough to be a God thing.
While reading The Washington Post, a story on human trafficking in Uganda captured John's attention—and his spirit. Little girls were being lured into sexual slavery despite government attempts to combat the practice. My friend Googled Uganda. A cyber rabbit-trail led him to a professor leading a trip there to shoot documentaries. Despite having no experience or equipment, John applied for the program … and won the prof over.
One week before departure, an exhausted John would have passed up an invitation to a film-industry party. But his wife had prayed that he'd make one significant contact there. So he went and met the Ugandan ambassador. As a Christ-follower, she felt such an affinity for his project that she invited him to meet with her the next day.
John spent three weeks shooting his documentary, and three months editing and producing it. Our National Community Church hosted the premier showing of Sing. Last week John called to report he'd been hired as an assistant director and producer for a $20 million feature film!
