Weekend Wrap-up Theme of the Week: What Is Your Treasure? Saturday, October 4, 2008
 1 of 1

There's a sense in which giving our money to God's work is like investing in heaven. But storing treasures in heaven is certainly not limited to tithing. We should seek to please God not only in our giving, but also in fulfilling his purposes in everything we do. Every time we perform an act of obedience to God, we are making a deposit in our heavenly account. Interact with God's Word
Matthew 6:19-24
- Name some non-monetary treasures that people are often driven by.
- Judging by what you think and dream about (v. 21), what are your treasures?
- How susceptible are these treasures (v. 19) to losing their luster or being wiped out?
- What are some treasures (v. 20) that can withstand these hazards?
- How does what you assign value to tend to define what will command your time and efforts?
- Why do you think desire is a more potent motivator than duty?
- What (v. 21) is the correlation between your treasures and your desires? If what you concentrate on and dream about changes, could your treasures remain unchanged?
Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God to help you concentrate more on His eternal heavenly economy and lessen your preoccupation with earth's transitory economy.
Matthew 6:19-24
19 "Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
22 "Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
24 "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
