So, Who's the Stupid One? Theme of the Week: Why Singles Save Sex Monday, September 1, 2008
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Doing wrong is fun for a fool, while wise conduct is a pleasure to the wise (Proverbs 10:23). Bonus Reading: Philippians 3:16-21
Our society mocks virginity, flaunting sex by experimentation as the sophisticated means of getting to know one another. Sexual self-discipline is ridiculed as stupid. But how stupid is premarital sex that risks the possibility of emotional devastation, pregnancy, or even deadly disease?
Genuine virginity shatters the deception conveyed by the media's spin on the words "sexually active" and "sexually inactive." The former suggests a vigorous, vital lifestyle; the latter suggests a boorish, passive one. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Casual morality sacrifices the gift of total love on the altar of self-indulgence. This kind of love better deserves the term "inactive" because it is passive toward the very idea that one person—one lifetime lover—deserves a gift not previously presented to others.
In contrast, the passion that drives the commitment of a sexually abstinent person is more accurately described as "active." His actions are motivated by a vigorous expectancy of giving himself completely to one person alone as a gift of wholehearted love. He is able to say, "I have more to give because nothing's been given away beforehand."
