… Staying Well-Rounded Theme of the Week: Work Habits in Balance

Key Bible Verse: Work for six days, and rest on the seventh. … allow the people of your household … to be refreshed (Exodus 23:12). Bonus Reading: Psalm 112:1-9
The Cathys' successes, however, derive from something more powerful than hard work. Unlike many successful business people, Truett never succumbed to a narrow obsession. He maintains a sense of accountability to God for how he conducts his life, of which business is only a part.
On Sundays, when all the world is spinning in commerce around them, the Cathys are resting. All the Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed. That policy, Truett maintains, helps Chick-fil-A attract and retain good employees, yielding one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry.
The Moo Cow Band is another example of thinking outside of the restaurant business. Truett's son Dan, an accomplished trumpeter, has put together a group of the best musical performers in Atlanta. They've played at the Peach Bowl, at political inaugurations, and in churches all around the country.
Besides turning a profit, Chick-fil-A serves the greater good. It has established generous scholarship programs for company employees. The WinShape Centre, a foster care program and camp, raises funds for children who are "victims of circumstances." Service, not blind profit, is the overriding agenda.
