Blindsided Theme of the Week: Hang on to Trust Monday, September 15, 2008
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: We were crushed … but as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God (2 Corinthians 1:8, 9). Bonus Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-9
My job was going great! I was bringing in 25 percent more than my goal in an organization experiencing unprecedented growth. Then one Friday afternoon, out of the blue, the vice president handed me a memo of totally false statements and asked for my resignation. I felt as if I'd been kicked in the gut.
Crushed and confused, I sought God in my pain, laying out the entire situation before him. Over the following days, he reminded me that unethical practices had begun surfacing in company leadership. If I'd continued working in that environment, I eventually would have compromised my convictions. He'd allowed this situation, unfair as it was, to move me toward the center of his will. Realizing this helped me surrender the situation to him and gradually experience his peace. In a few months God provided me with a better, more fulfilling position.
Many situations can cause us to lose our spiritual perspective, tempting us to believe God has abandoned us. The challenge is to find our way to the eye of the storm and ask: How can I have peace despite what's going on around me? Trusting God enabled me to live faithfully and consistently during a tough time.
