A Tall Order?
Theme of the Week: Hang on to Trust
Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Key Bible Verse: I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return (2 Timothy 1:12). Bonus Reading: Psalm 75:6-7, 10

It's easy to develop a skeptical outlook when faced with the ups and downs of life's obstacle course. At times I felt that I could never trust again. "How do I trust after all I've been through?" I muttered in my jail cell. "How can I trust anyone after all the times I've been lied to?" The only one I could count on, I felt, was myself …

… Until four-and-a-half years ago, that is, when I met Jesus. I stopped relying on myself to make things happen. I discovered the wonderful truth that I have a loving Father in heaven who looks after me daily, and isn't only concerned for my well-being, but is also in complete control. I came to realize that "my life" was never really mine, and that I had only been fooling myself when I trusted in others or in myself, rather than in God.

It's difficult to let go and wholeheartedly open yourself to trust—unless you know the one to whom you're entrusting your heart and soul. Does it sometimes seem a tall order to trust in God's decisions and actions in your life? Remember that he has a reason for everything he sends us, and it's for our ultimate good.

—Derrick Osorio in Pennsylvania

My Response: What setbacks had an imprisoned Paul experienced? But what had he entrusted to God?

Thought to Apply: Trustfulness is based on confidence in God, whose ways I do not understand. If I did, there would be no need for trust. —Oswald Chambers

0Prayer for the Week

Teach me, Lord, to accept that You are in control, even when I can't make sense of what's happening to me.
