What Respect Claims Theme of the Week: Why Singles Save Sex Thursday, September 4, 2008
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Don't you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? (1 Corinthians 6:15). Bonus Reading: Proverbs 5:15-16
The essence of God's idea, summoning me to remain a virgin until married, is a call to …
- Respect God. I understand that none of his laws are designed to reduce life, but rather to fill it with meaning and to guarantee my long-term interests. So I honor him who first loved me with complete and loving obedience to his call to holiness.
- Respect myself. I recognize the worth of my physical being as deserving more than being handled like marketed goods displayed with the virtual signs: "For Sale—cheap" or "Free!—seal broken, handle at your own risk."
- Respect my future mate. I won't prematurely open the precious treasure of the deepest intimacies and the beauty of the most wonderful physical delights two people can ever exchange.
- Respect Jesus' first claim on my body. Since he is Lord above all, I am committed to giving my all to his purpose for my life and not letting that purpose get diluted or tarnished by compromise. I present him with the highest and best of my devotion and expend my energies only on those things he approves.

My Response: Am I willing to commit myself to Jack's four "respects"?
Thought to Apply: Saying yes to God means saying no to things that offend his holiness. —A. Morgan Derham
