Who Said It … Steve Farrar
Steve Farrar served as a pastor for fifteen years. As part of his doctoral program at Dallas Theological Seminary, he surveyed over 1,000 men from across the nation, asking about their marriages, their children, their careers, and their ethics. His research led him to his 1990 best-seller, Point Man. Response to that book, in turn, propelled him from the pastorate to a ministry focused on equipping men for spiritual leadership. What He Said … God-Forsaken Job?
I have a friend who was a top student in seminary, taking his course work very seriously. Graduating with honors, he fully anticipated a rich ministry. But after pastoring a church for just a few years, he was asked to leave.
Devastated, my friend began to look for another ministry position. But his diligent search turned up nothing. For three years the only job he could get was delivering newspapers. Every morning he'd be up at four throwing newspapers. It was a dead-end job and in a dead-end place. At times he thought he'd be there forever, that God had passed him by.
But, just as in the case of Joseph, sold into servitude in Egypt, the Lord was with him. He was on his way to becoming a successful man. Today my friend oversees the editorial content of numerous Christian books published each year. He works with a large contingent of authors, making critical decisions about biblical content and doctrinal integrity.
