Weekend Wrap-Up Theme of the Week: Why Do We Fail Those We Love? Saturday, December 6, 2008
 1 of 1

Paul's magnificent description of God's kind of love is embedded in a part of his letter that answers questions the Corinthians had posed about worship and the role of spiritual gifts. He stresses that unconditional, active love is essential for harmonious, worthy church worship. It's also the essential ingredient of a God-honoring family. Interact with God's Word
1 Corinthians 13:4–7
- How is Paul's definition of love different from how our society defines love?
- How could you convey a sense of kindness (v. 4) to your wife today?
- What would demonstrate greater patience to your children?
- Why do everyday household pressures bring out our latent irritability and rudeness?
- A love that "does not demand its own way" (v. 5) goes against all our natural inclinations. What makes this utterly unselfish kind of love possible?
- Why is scorekeeping about perceived offenses lethal in a marriage relationship? How can a caring husband and father "keep no record" of these?
- How does your love measure up when gauged by its refusal (v. 7) to give up?
Spend time in prayer
Ask God to fill you with his love so that you can pass it on to your family members whether or not it is returned.
1 Corinthians 13:4–7
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 of 1
