Weekend Wrap-Up Theme of the Week: Graded on the Curve? Saturday, April 11, 2009
 1 of 1

Why—in spite of the agonizing pain so cruelly inflicted—can we call the day when Jesus was executed by crucifixion "Good Friday"? Only because that was the day when "God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:21). We just as appropriately could have named it New Covenant Day. Interact with God's Word
Hebrews 10:11-18
- In what two ways (vv. 11-12) does the sacrifice offered under the new covenant differ from those offered under the old covenant?
- What is our status (v. 14) as a result of our High Priest's offering of himself?
- So why are we still undergoing the process of being made holy?
- To what extent would you say God's intention of writing his laws in your heart and mind (v. 16) is being realized?
- How has your understanding been impacted? How about your obedience?
- How does it make you feel to know (v. 17) that your forgiven sins will never be brought up again?
Spend Time in Prayer
Thank God for his unchanging plan, adopted before he made the world, "to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 1:5).
Hebrews 10:11-18
11 Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. 12 But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. 13 There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. 14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so. For he says,
16 "This is the new covenant I will make
with my people on that day, says the Lord:
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds."
17 Then he says,
"I will never again remember
their sins and lawless deeds."
18 And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
