A Bouquet Is Better Theme of the Week: Colorblind? No Way! Wednesday, March 18, 2009
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free … but we all share the same Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). Bonus Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
My prayer is that the church, whether Anglo, African, or Afghan, would refuse to be colorblind. Why would we ever want to dull a sense that we've been given by our creator? We need churches that know how to see beauty and celebrate diversity.
Who among us would ever desire to walk through a garden to behold only one color and one kind of flower? I enjoy roses, but not just red ones. I enjoy white, yellow, and pink roses too. When you mix a few of these roses with purple and yellow irises, carnations, and lilies, along with a little greenery wrapped together with a bow, you have a beautiful bouquet. When God sees his children, he appreciates their unique colors and categories. But when he gathers them all together in his divine palm, he is holding a masterful bouquet.
The divine gardener is coming back for one Church with many congregations. God's grace flows to one race, the human race. Like the effect that brilliantly colored leaves falling from a New England tree in autumn have on the average human being, I wonder if the diversity of God's children falling at his feet in worship simply takes his breath away.

My Response: A culturally different expression of the Church that I delight in is …
Thought to Apply: Variety's the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor. —William Cowper (English poet)
