At our camp overseas, the commander let us set up a little tent to conduct a Bible study. Within a few days, 35 to 40 people were attending every night. We'd read through the Bible together, and I'd give a little message.
After a temporary guard duty assignment away from our camp, I was surprised upon my return to discover that our Bible study had grown to 110 people. And the same Hispanic kid that I'd met two months earlier was taking part! At the end of the study, he came forward and surrendered his life to Christ.
As an athlete I've known the sweet taste of victory, but nothing is as sweet as seeing the victory of Jesus written on the face of a fresh believer. Describing his journey to faith, this young man pointed at me and said, "It's because of him that Jesus is my Lord." He told how I'd planted the seed of the gospel in his heart on that bus ride and how God had used others to water and nurture it.
That night God gave me the gift of seeing his ability to use my availability to make an eternal difference. Twenty minutes of my time on the bus and now that young man will spend eternity in heaven!
