Theme of the Week: Payoff of Eternal Proportions

Key Bible Verse: "There is joy in the presence of God's angels when even one sinner repents" (Luke 15:10). Bonus Reading: Luke 10:16-20

If we really believed that lost people are lost and dying, we'd be desperate to persuade them to turn to Christ.

One of my team members, David, received word at our Portland office that his father-in-law, Mr. Stevens, had only hours to live in a Minnesota hospital. For years, Mr. Stevens had refused to listen to his daughter Gayle and David's appeals to give his life to Christ. He was mad at God because his wife had died 40 years earlier of cancer.

David rushed home, phoned the hospital room, and asked a nurse to hold the phone to his father-in-1aw's ear. "Dad, you've got only a few hours to live," he said. "Soon you're going to face your Creator. Isn't it time to get things right with the Lord?" Despite having tubes in his mouth and nose, the old fellow managed to say, "Yes." David quickly went through the Four Spiritual Laws, and then asked, "Would you like to receive Christ?"

Mr. Stevens prayed aloud with David, confessing his sins and committing to trust in Jesus Christ. Overjoyed that her dad would be with the Lord, Gayle promised her husband, "You don't ever have to buy me another gift, for no gift can match knowing I'll see Daddy again in heaven."

My Response: Who did God use to convey the gospel message to you?

Thought to Apply: You are a Christian today because somebody cared. Now it's your turn.       —Warren Wiersbe
