Mother's Day Bonus Page: One of the Boys?
Theme of the Week: What's to Confess?
Sunday, May 10, 2009

Key Bible Verse: Each man must love his wife as he loves himself (Ephesians 5:33).

I have discovered that my wife needs me to express my love for her at frequent intervals in order for us to stay connected. Michele will say to me, "Harry, I'm starting to feel like one of the boys." That's my clue to take action and show her that I love her. In my life there are also two children, a church, a traveling ministry, and working out at the gym. With all of these commitments, my wife is wise enough to warn me when I'm not connecting with her.

Not long ago, Michele was scheduled to speak at a women's conference one hour's drive from our home. As we discussed this on the phone, I detected a deep tiredness in her voice. I asked if I could have someone drive her to the meeting.

"No," she said, "I really don't have the emotional energy to entertain anyone or make small talk." I quickly checked my calendar and said, "Well, how about me? I'll drive you—you won't even have to make small talk."

That's what I did. Driving her allowed her time to gather her thoughts and relax before speaking. Rearranging my priorities helped her cope emotionally with her rigorous schedule. She told me that my small act of kindness made her feel understood, cared for, and supported.

My Mother's Day Response: What do I see as the link between Christ's resurrection and mine?

Thought to Apply: The more emotionally mature we are, the fewer demands we make on others, and the more we're concerned about their needs. —Cecil Osborne

0Prayer for the Week

My need to confess sin and be cleansed is as great as ever. Don't let me to pretend otherwise.
