Weekend Wrap-Up Theme of the Week: Your Winning Combination Saturday, May 23, 2009
 1 of 1

We know that Peter was a family man from the account of Jesus healing his mother-in-law. In a brief paragraph, he summarizes how a man honors his wife. He protects her, respects her, helps her, is sensitive to her needs, and relates to her with courtesy, consideration, insight, and tact. Interact with God's Word
1 Peter 3:7
- What does the phrase, "In the same way," tell you about how this specific instruction to husbands relates to Peter's broader instruction (2:13–3:9) about authority, love, and respect generally?
- What courtesies and ways of showing respect let your wife know that you honor her?
- What would expecting your wife to work full-time outside the home and full-time at home tell her about your attitude? How could you lighten the load of a working spouse?
- If you're to treat your wife with understanding, what signals do you need to pick up from her?
- In what sense may your wife as a woman be weaker than you as a man? Does this imply moral or intellectual inferiority, or physical limitations? In what ways are women vulnerable to attack or abuse?
- What can you do or say to make your wife feel she's an equal partner with you?
- Why would mistreating your wife undermine your relationship with God? (See also James 4:3 and Matthew 5:23 –24.)
Spend time in prayer:
Ask God to help you interact with your wife in ways that make her feel truly understood, respected, and loved.
