What We Agreed On Theme of the Week: Bridge the Musical Gap Monday, October 12, 2009
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: Fathers, … bring [your children] up with the discipline and instruction that come from the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Bonus Reading: Proverbs 4:10-15
The ground rule Nathan and I came up with is: Dad makes the final decision but not without input from the youth.
Fathers, you need to understand that from God's perspective you are to watch over your family not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. So it's not okay to allow your kids to listen to lyrics that could poison their souls. Think of it this way: you would never allow your kids to drink gasoline even if they chose to do so. Neither should you let your kids drink music that could cripple them forever!
Along with this ground rule, Dad, you need to make sure your child knows the reason behind your decision. If you want to build a wall between your kid and you, simply make a decision and answer them with "because I said so." Bad move. You kids are more apt to accept a decision if they know the "why" behind it. Isn't this true in your life as well? If you get a traffic ticket and you ask the officer why, how likely would you accept the answer "because I said so"?
This is where a series of questions come into play that helps weed out music that should be banned from your home.
