Are You Fun to Live With? Theme of the Week: Humor, Happiness, and Joy Monday, September 21, 2009
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse:"Why are you looking so sad? You don't look sick to me. You must be deeply troubled" (Nehemiah 2:2). Bonus Reading: Neh. 1:1-4; 2:1-6
The phone was ringing as I walked into the house. But just as I picked up the receiver the answering machine came on. I shouted, "Hello!" over the greeting and heard my wife's voice on the other end. We waited out the recorded message, had a brief conversation, and hung up. Later I noticed there was a message on the answering machine and pushed the replay button. I discovered that it had taped our entire conversation. Judy said a cheery "Hello!" and asked, "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," I mumbled.
"We got delayed at work, and I just wanted you to know I'm going to be a little late," she said with a lilt.
"Okay," I grunted.
"Did you have a good day?" she asked.
"Fine," I mumbled.
"Well, I'll be there in a few minutes!"
"All right," I grunted.
When I heard my glum voice and its lack of enthusiasm, I felt terrible. Is my personality that morose and gloomy? I determined that day to improve it. I still have a long way to go, but the Lord has helped me slowly change. I laugh more and am less uptight. I'm less preoccupied, don't pout as much, and am quicker to tease and have fun.

My Response:Do people tiptoe around me, hoping not to upset me? Or do I project joy, peace, and contentment?
