Weekend Wrap-Up Theme of the Week: Humor, Happiness, and Joy Saturday, September 26, 2009
 1 of 1

If you know the love of God," Brennan Manning wrote, "have experienced the forgiveness of the Spirit, and have been embraced by the Father, then please notify your face!"
From the 2 Samuel passage—as from his Psalms—it's clear that David required no such urging. Intertwined with the selected verses is a stark warning that reverence for God may never be dispensed with. But while David's wife Michal was offended by David's exuberance, God was not. Interact with God's Word
2 Samuel 6:1,5,14-15 and Psalm 100
- In what ways (vv. 5 & 14) are we told that the people celebrated the return of the Ark of the Covenant to its tabernacle home?
- How did King David bring the celebration to a climax?
- Does the exuberance described here mirror your worship experience or stand in contrast to it?
- What, according to Psalm 100, is the basis for our gladness and joy?
- What's the most fun you've had worshiping God? What would it take to replicate that experience every week?…
every day
- Do you think of yourself as "Exhibit A" of the "incredible wealth" of God's grace and kindness (v. 7)? Should you?
Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God for the capacity to experience the joy that your forgiven status should evoke, and to reflect it to those around you.
2 Samuel 6:1,5,14-15 and Psalm 100 2 Samuel 61 Then David again gathered all the elite troops in Israel, 30,000 in all.
5 David and all the people of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments—lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. 15 So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams' horns. Psalm 1001 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
