Weekend Wrap-Up Theme of the Week: What's the Universe Telling Us? Saturday, January 30, 2010
 1 of 2

Through rich poetic imagery, the psalmist paints a powerful word picture of the Creator-God. And here we not only see the God who created, but also the God who takes delight in his creation and who is actively involved in watering crops, feeding his creatures, and overseeing all that he has made. As you read Psalm 104, look for specific references that point to the creation story in Genesis 1. Interact with God's Word
Psalm 104
- What kind of God is described in verses 1-9? What adjectives come to mind?
- How does God provide for all living creatures, including humans? (See vv. 10-18, 21.)
- Focus on the words "variety" and "wisdom" (v. 24). What do those two words tell us about both the Creator and his creation?
- What does it mean that God "takes pleasure in his creation" (v. 31)? (See v. 26 and Job 39:13-18.)
- Why is all of creation dependant on God? (See vv. 27-30.)
- How does the psalmist respond to the Creator and Sustainer of life? (See v. 33.)
- If we truly believe this psalm speaks truth, how should it affect the way we worship and live?
Spend Time in Prayer
Remain silent for a minute or two, reflecting on today's Bible study and on this week's devotionals; spend a minute praising God for his beautiful creation; then express your humble dependence on the One who, moment by moment, gives you each beat of your heart.
Psalm 104
1 Let all that I am praise the Lord.
O Lord my God, how great you are!
You are robed with honor and majesty.
2 You are dressed in a robe of light.
You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;
3 you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds.
You make the clouds your chariot;
you ride upon the wings of the wind.
4 The winds are your messengers;
flames of fire are your servants.
5 You placed the world on its foundation
so it would never be moved.
6 You clothed the earth with floods of water,
water that covered even the mountains.
7 At your command, the water fled;
at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away.
8 Mountains rose and valleys sank
to the levels you decreed.
9 Then you set a firm boundary for the seas,
so they would never again cover the earth.
10 You make springs pour water into the ravines,
so streams gush down from the mountains.
11 They provide water for all the animals,
and the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds nest beside the streams
and sing among the branches of the trees.
13 You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home,
and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.
14 You cause grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for people to use.
You allow them to produce food from the earth—
15 wine to make them glad,
olive oil to soothe their skin,
and bread to give them strength.
16 The trees of the Lord are well cared for—
the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 There the birds make their nests,
and the storks make their homes in the cypresses.
18 High in the mountains live the wild goats,
and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes.

This week, dear Creator-God, I will look for your "fingerprints" in the world around me; I will take moments to pause and praise you for both creating and sustaining all that you've made.
