Weekend Bible Study Theme of the week: Win the Battle over Porn Saturday, January 28, 2012
 1 of 1

Temptation does something strange to our memories. We begin to see the slavery from which we were saved through rose colored glasses. Like the Israelites, we begin to long for Egypt (Num. 14:3). Porn is one of the ways we make a truce with our old master, sin. Our upside down memories fool us into ignoring the pain, sorrow, and death caused by sin for the pursuit of temporary pleasure. Today's Key Study Passage calls us to put off this foolishness and fully embrace the greater joy and new life found in Christ. Key Study Passage:
Ephesians 4:17-24
- In what ways are thoughts and sexual sin connected? (See vv. 17-19.)
- Think of some ways that you can begin to put off the old self and put on the new nature. (See vv. 20-24; Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Pet. 1:13-16.)
- How might this week's readings help you in your battle with lust in its various forms?
- Reread Monday's devotion. Are there any common "triggers" for lust that you need to eliminate? How might you go about this?
- On a sheet of paper, brainstorm the empty promises we receive from lust/porn; under each empty promise write a corresponding Scripture regarding the greater promises of God.
Spend Time in Prayer: Ask God to help in your battle with temptation toward lust and/or porn; ask him to satisfy you with the richness of freedom, victory, and new life in him.
Ephesians 4:17-24 Living as Children of Light
17 With the Lord's authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
20 But that isn't what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. 1 of 1
