Even Greater Works . . . Theme of the week: Pursue God's Brand of Greatness Wednesday, December 12, 2012
 1 of 1

Key Bible Verse: "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do." (John 14:12, NASB) Dig Deeper: John 14:11-14
God wants you to be great.
In Genesis 12:2, God said directly to Abraham, "I will bless you, and make your name great" (NASB et al.). In 2 Samuel 7:9, God echoes these thoughts to David when he says, "I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the names of the great men who are on earth."
Yet before we go any further, I want to pause because I can hear your concern. I hear what you are saying: "But, Tony, that's Abraham. That's David. Those are great men. That's not me. I am just an ordinary man. God never said that to me."
Oh, but you are wrong.
He did.
In fact, Jesus did [in today's Key Bible Verse]: "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do."
Jesus said plainly that, if you believe in him, you will do stuff that even he didn't do on earth. That is a kingdom truth. Not only will you do the great things that Jesus did, but you will do greater things.

My Response: How do I respond to the idea that I can do even greater works than Jesus? Why do I respond this way?
Thought to Apply: Whosoever would be great in this world, Jesus was always telling them, is small; and whoever, through his sense of God's greatness, realizes his own smallness, becomes spiritually great.—Malcolm Muggeridge (British journalist, writer)
